Many years ago, before the invention of VHS and Video recorders, there was something called the 8mm movies. People who have the means and equipments rely on these to record down on film, their memorable moments which then can be played back by a film projector specially made for 8mm films. With the emergence of VCDs and later on, DVDs, these 8mm movies were slowly phased out and eventually died a natural death. However, there were still many have still have fond memories recorded in 8mm format and if not for the advancement of technology in the art of film transfer, these movies would have been rendered useless.

Modern technology has brought new life to these otherwise discarded 8mm movies. Using a technology called Hollywood Restoration, available exclusively at Video Conversion Experts, they are capable of restoring all kind of old formats to the latest DVD format and converting and transfering 8mm to DVD was made possible.

However, even with the wonders of Technology, there are still limitations to the quality of the films restored. The final quality will still depend very much on the initial quality of the films that is to be restored. Needless to say, the better the quality of the original film, the better will be the finished product. This theory is very clearly explained in Video Conversion Expert’s web site using the table below.

Using a 1 to 10 scale, if the original quality has a scale of 9 (film#1) but has deteriorated to a scale of 6, there is a good chance that this film could be restored to it’s original form or even better. However, it the original copy is not too well done (film#2)and has a scale of 7 and deterioration is so bad that it has been degraded to a scale of 3, then the best that you can expect will be a scale of 5 for the restored film.

Whatever it is, it will still be better than what you have in hand now. When before you can only look at the pitiful films in it’s raw form, you now have a chance to watch them with your latest DVD player. DVDs last a life time if care is taken and this film transfer and film restoration technology will make sure your descendants have a chance to see for themselves how their great grandparents celebrated their birthdays. So go bring out all your old stuffs that you have lost hope for and go convert all your VHS, your 8mm and your Super 8 Film to DVD
