Dealing With Unanswered Complains

How many times have we complained about our dissatisfaction about certain services and yet hit the wall? It is very frustrating dealing with uncooperative or ignorant staffs. I will take the examples that I have faced during my sub-contracting days. At that time I have to deal a lot with the Water Department as I was a plumbing contractor.

To get water supply in to a new house is not a major problem. Dealing with the staffs of the Department is. I have to go through at least 3 person before I can get one form signed. First there is the normal application. Then it is the initial approval, then comes the inspection, and then comes the final approval. After that I will have to visit he department at least 3 to 5 times before I can get the water meter fixed and get the water supply in to the new house. Most of them drags their feet.

Deal Directly with the Top Gun

After a few such encounters, I decided that enough is enough and I decided to override the staff and dealt with the top guy instead. What I did was I will fill in the application. Wait 2 days and then I will walk straight in to the top guys office and tell him of my application personally. Most of the time I will get it approved immediately as it is just a matter of him signing the approval.

Lots of us gets taken back when we want to face top people. They feel inferior walking into a posh office. They are afraid that they might offend someone important and they might make things difficult for them. So they will rather wait and let things take it;s course.

Top Management are Humans too

Never fear approaching the top guy. He or she is just hu8man after all and not some alien from outer space. However there are a few things to keep watch when you talk to these top guys.

Dress neatly and be presentable

  • Of course you don’t have to wear a tie, but at least wear a clean shirt neatly tucked in,
  • Be Polite

  • Don’t walk into his office and start demanding and belittling his staff.
  • Offer your hand for a shake and greet him courteously.
  • Don’t sit unless he invites you which he will certainly will.
  • Do not beat round the bush with silly talk and go straight to your point.
  • Shake his hand and thank him before you leave.
  • You will be surprise how helpful these top people can be. Their staff will be putting on an air in front of you trying to show off their power, the top guy don’t need to do that. As long as you approach them in the right way, most of your problems can be solved on the spot.

    This approach can be used in any circumstances. even over the phone. If you complain over the phone and the staffs are not helpful enough try insisting on talking to their boss. Lots of problems can be solved with the guy who can make an instant decision. Remember, the top guy is just human. he won’t bite you.
