In the year 2003, John S. Shriber and Roman Zaks started a New York corporation under the name of Roomster.net with a vision to change the scenario of rooms and apartment renting in the United States by allowing potential apartment seekers to match their renting criteria online with in a community of their own. The general idea is to get members to submit their profiles and preferences to roomster.net so when that when members within the community are looking for an apartment or a roommate, they can know beforehand the likes and dislikes of that potential roommate before agreeing to share their rooms with them.

Starting off with an initial 0 profile during their initial launch, Shriber and Roman Zaks had their profile database ballooned to more than 30,000 members within 4 months. At their latest press release on the 1st. of May 2007, the number have shot past 1,000,000 active profiles. In that press release, Roomster announce the integration of Google maps into their Search results, thus enabling active members to not only choose their mates according to personalities but by location as well. In the same press release, John S. Shriber, CEO of Roomster, said,

“With the addition of Google Maps we are confident that our members will be able to fulfill their rental needs even faster by seeing their potential apartments and rooms plotted instantly on maps. We’re excited when we’re able to add such dynamic applications to our site, making the Roomster product even better and more useful to our customer base.”

Roman Zaks, CTO of Roomster added,

“Our technical team made a lot of changes mostly in the site’s layout, overlaying Google’s product in combination with our data was pretty painless due to the extremely well executed Google API and well architect-ed Roomster platform. We look forward to integrating future Google products into Roomster.”

Already filled with a stream of useful features like posting pictures, testimonials from friends, listing hobbies, interests, asking personal questions on profile pages, and the recent expansion into the United Kingdom, this latest addition further boosted roomster’s unbeatable position as the number one in the online renting market. Members of roomster.net now have access to profiles of people wanting to share rooms or sublet their apartments from all the major cities in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.

Members listings are very detailed with a complete page dedicated to their profile, their location, testimonial from friends and a complete list down of all their likes and dislikes. When someone sees what they like, they have the opportunity to email them, hotlist them or send them an instant short message expressing their desire be roommates, sub-rent a room, go apartment hinting together of just simply asking for a picture if it is not presently displayed in their profile page. In fact, not only will roomster.net be a perfect place to look for a roommate, it will be a perfect place to meet new friends as well.
