In every organisation be it a small one or a big multinational, as long as there are more than 3 employees, you will bound to see politickings going on. The bigger the number of staff, the more you will see. Some who are very self righteous will leave when they cannot stand all those back stabbings and apple polishings. Others who depends on that job for their livelihood have no choice but to either sit quietly trying not to offend anyone of play along.
Employers likes politics In his Office.
It is the hard but cold truth. Employers likes to have one or two of his staffs to plat politics and be an apple polisher. However, don’t be overly excited over this. A good employer knows who are the one playing the game and who are the ones who are doing a good job. The reason he needs people like that in his office is because he gets to know all the gossips and the wrongdoings that goes round in the office and the best way is trough an informer who comes by the way of an apple polisher.
Dealing with office backstabbings.
The most effective way is of course is watching your back. When you are given a task, do it with all your heart so it leaves no room for people to back stab you.
The second most effective way is to be friends with the office backstabber. Though you may not like them very much, at least don’t offend them openly.
Do not discuss about personal lives and scandals with your colleagues. Sometimes you will never know who is going to tell on you. If there are things that you need to keep to yourself, just keep it to your self.
Keep a cordial relationship with every one in the office.
Most importantly, don’t critisize the company that you are working for and paying you the wages. Once your boss comes to know you are not happy with the company, you will be the first to go if any unfortunate events happens. In the eyes of the employer, a disgruntled worker can disrupt the entire worflow.
Spotting the Backstabber
This sometimes can be very difficult. An experienced and shrewd backstabber don’t directly tell on you. In fact, they could be the best of friend in front of you. They do their backstabbing in a very indirect way that will lead to you eventually. You won’t see them gossiping away in front of your boss. That way, everyone will know he is the culprit.
To spot a backstabber, always be wary of the guy who asks a lot of questions that does not concern him. Be alret of the guy from another department who offers to help you in your job, unless you know them personally.
Keep a sharp ear and a sharp mind during meetings. Try to make out the consequences of what some statements uttered during the meeting will lead to. The backstabber may make it sound very professional, but if the things they he said will implicate you after taking a detour, you had better be prepared.
Once Bitten Twice Shy.
Backstabbers won’t normally get a second chance to backstab someone. If you are foolish enough to let someone stab you in the back twice, then I guess you are not very suitable for that job. Take the first instance as a lesson for you to see the true value of someone around you. Once you know who are the ones to avoid and who are the ones you can dine with, it will be less stressful for you.
