It is an unwritten rule in the business world that if you obtain a lucrative business opportunity, or a contract, it is good ethics to show your appreciation to the guy who showed you the way or who introduced you to the opportunity with a generous reward. They could have well recommended others and without his recommendations you would not have known of such opportunity. So repay the favor so more favors can be received. They might not make it known to you that they want something in return or may be they did not even expect anything in return, but make sure you make it worth his effort, so if another big one comes his way, he will remember you first.
There is a Chinese saying that goes, “A sheep’s fur grows on a sheep’s back” It means that if you want a good thick fur during the next shearing season, make sure you take off the old layer of fur cleanly first.
