Termite Prevention – Doing it the right way

The biggest headache that any house owner faces is the when termite starts attacking their houses. Termites are very stubborn creatures that will thrives on almost anything you can find in our house. From old books and newspapers to old clothes in our closet, once they come, they stays on until they have devoured everything and they are hard to get rid of unless you call in the professionals. So as always prevention is better than cure.

The best way of course is to protect your property against this scourge at the very initial stage. As this is not something to be done by yourself as you will not have the right tools or chemicals, get a good and reputable Pest Control Company’s services.

The actual job will involves lots of drilling and high pressure pumping of chemicals so it is best done before the house is fully built. First and foremost is the ground that your house is built on. Have it protected before the actual foundation is laid. What is normally done is the Pest Controllers will drill holes on the ground and pump in the anti termite chemicals with high pressure pumps so termites will not like getting near that place.

Then comes all the beams and planks that you are going to use for your building. It would be best if you can arrange to have them all coated with anti termite chemicals beforehand, but some builders might not like it because once they spray the chemicals on, the beams tends to stay damp and oily for a long period thus making their jobs difficult. However most Pest Controllers will be happy to do it after all the wood works have been done.

Doing all this after you have moved in will be quite messy though still possible. They will have to drill through your tiled floors to pump in the chemicals and it is not a matter of drilling one or two holes. It is going to be lots of holes as they have to cover the whole ground that you house sits on. Of course after drilling, they will try their best to cover and patch back the holes, but then it would be a heartache to see your new marbled floors abused like that.

Then they will have to make their way up the ceiling to get the beams and entire roof structure properly protected. It is suffice to say that there will be some very narrow areas that will be unreachable to them and most of the time these areas are left unprotected, but there is not much you can do and will have to accept this fact.

For those who has already been badly attacked by termites, then I’m afraid you are going to be spending a substantial amount of money to get your house back in shape. All beams have to be checked one by one and those that have been eaten away have to be replaced. Wall structures have to be thoroughly checked by Past Controllers using special equipments to detect if termites are making their way through you walls underneath the plastered cement. Ground and surrounding areas have to be inspected. It is going to be a major headache.
