To write the way we speak or to speak the way we write. That is the question.

For the younger generation, there's just one commandment. If you want to be part of them, you must look and sound like them. Even if you have to break your perfect English in 10 places.

It'd be nice to see a slightly higher standard of English among the local bloggers. It's a shame, because there really are many unique voices out there that are worth reading, but poor grammar and sentence structure tend to undermine readability a tad.

On the flip side, while I'm sure education plays a big part of it, I notice that most local blogs tend to be conversational in nature, as in they're written more or less the same way a local might speak English to a friend. Which also tend to be the way I speak English. Just a thought.

That's probably why most of my readers consists mainly of people outside Malaysia rather than in Malaysia itself. Somehow, as a friend said, the way I have been blogging these past few months, it's like I'm no longer a Malaysian blogger anymore. Not with the things I talk about or the way I've been writing.
