Okay so you might be young and adventurous. You want to see the world. You want to experience all the hardships and all the enjoyments in life. So you keep changing jobs to take on different challenges. Then one fine day, you find yourself not so young anymore. You find yourself lacking the energy to tackle new challenges. You look back and you realised that if you had stucked on with the company that you were so happy with at that time, you would have been promoted to a Manager now. You feel a slight tinge of regret, but you console your self by saying,
” hey, at least I got to see the world!”
Yes, that is what happens to lots of young, ambitious and adventurous young people. They always think they have time on their hands. They can be extravagant in wasting away their youth becuase they feel that they still make a come back in a few years time. They don’t believe in the phrase, “Time and Tide Waits for No man” Well, let me tell you the cold hard fact. It is true. Time wasted is like water being pured away. You can never get it back. You can only grow older as the years go by, not younger.
It is age old advise, but I think one that should be heeded. Work now, enjoy later. Lets’ put it this way. If you start slogging the day you leave college, you might make enough to retire by 45 or maybe 50. That is the right time to see the world. There are still plenty of time for you to enjoy what you enjoyed doing.
When you are young, full or energy and full of ambitions, by all means go and try everything and test every job that comes your way. Give yourself a few years to job hop, but once you land yourself in one that has lots of potential make sure you hang on to it like your dear life. A rolling stone gathers no moss. I am sure you have heard of that one. So stop rolling once you land yourself on solid ground. Get yourself rooted there and grow.
